Campervan Layout Not Working? How Bespoke U-Shaped Furniture Can Fix It

You bought or built the van for slow mornings, empty beaches and the kettle on at sunrise. So why does it sometimes feel like you are playing Tetris just to get to bed?

If you own a campervan, you know the layout is the thing you live with on every trip. In our youtube video we show a bespoke U-shaped campervan furniture layout built for a customer who wanted to maximise the space in their van. If you have ever wished your own van worked harder, here is what a layout like this changes, who it suits and what to think about before you change yours.

Does this sound familiar?
  • Making up the bed takes longer than cooking dinner.
  • When it rains, everyone is squeezed onto one seat.
  • Bags, boots, the dog bed and the kit end up on the bed or in the cab.
  • There is a corner you can never quite use and a cupboard you can never quite reach.
  • The home-built furniture rattles, sags or has seen better days.
  • You travel differently now: more people, a dog, a laptop, longer trips. The van was fitted out for how you used to travel.

Nod along to two or more and the van is not the problem. The layout is.

What a U-shaped campervan layout changes

A U-shaped layout wraps seating around a central table area, so everyone faces each other and the van has one proper living space instead of two seats and a gap. A well-designed one makes the same floor space work three ways: seating for the evening, a table for dinner and, once converted, somewhere to sleep.

It is not right for every van or every owner. A U-shape uses more floor than a single bench, so if you carry bikes, boards or bulky kit and want open floor space, say so early and we will talk through the alternatives. Better to find that out on paper than after the fit.

Why bespoke campervan furniture beats another kit

A kit or a DIY build can be a brilliant start, and plenty of owners get years of happy trips from one. But kits are made for the average van, and you already know where yours is not average: the wheel arch that steals a corner, the sliding door that clips the table, the gap that fits nothing. Bespoke furniture is designed around those details. We design and build in-house in Carmarthenshire, West Wales, and supply customers across the UK, so the layout, the furniture and the upholstery are planned together rather than squeezed around each other.

Can you refit the furniture in a campervan you already own?

A fair question, and the answer is often yes. We work on vans at every stage, from part conversions and upgrades to full builds, so a van you have already converted, or built yourself, is a perfectly good starting point. Whether a particular refit suits your van depends on what is in it now, which is why we start with a conversation and a few photos.

Benchy seats and the four types of campervan furniture

The customer in the video chose benchy seats as part of the layout. Not ready for a full refit? Browse our furniture, Rock 'n' Roll beds and upholstery in the shop. A new bed or fresh upholstery in winter can really change your campervan for spring and summer.
